I was a 19 year old student when I met my (future) husband. He was studing economics and business administration at the time. He likes saying that, if he had several lives to spend, one of them would be as an architect. One of his friends told me: 'As we walk around the city of Stockholm, all of us look at girls - Ulric looks at buildings!' Twenty years on this has not really changed. He still looks at buildings wherever he finds himself (and he travels a lot for work!) and he has built up an impressive collection of books on architecture (he has not yet managed to read them all). If was going to rub off, I suppose, even if it took some time. An occasional house started to appear in my paintings...

THE FADING HOUSE
While watching my children grow up I have become acutely aware of time as a dimension of our universe. Everything we know exists in time, can exist only because time exists. Time being the great leveller, forever moving on one day at a time. Things change or stop existing altogether. This painting is about the people and places of childhood that are no more. However solid and permanent they seemed, time moved things along. Things exist in our memories, as long as we exist, but they start fading before our eyes in our lifetime.

The whole point about this 'series 'is that it is not a series as such. I often make a painting that is a 'one off' (sometimes it's joined by other paintings later; the 'Tree of Life' painting turned into the 'Sacred Trees Series' five years later). All paintings here stand on their own, without companion paintings
YOUR REALITY, MY REALITY
(Building Bridges)
In dealings with other people, often there is no such thing as 'the truth'. There is just 'your reality versus my reality'. The two don't necessarily agree or overlap! However, the human being can develop the admirable ability to show empathy and build bridges
ODE TO RACHMANINOV (SOLD)
Sergei Rachmaninov was in his prime as a performer and composer during World War I. He toured towns along the Volga to support what Russia called 'The Great War'. He emigrated to the USA in 1917. Here he died, just before his 70th birthday, in 1939. In that last year of his life he gave an interview (to Musical Courier Magazine) and said:
'I felt like a ghost wandering in a world grown alien. I cannot cast out the old way of writing and I cannot acquire the new'
(Musical experts say this purported weakness was actually his greatest source of strength)
